Grand Canyon Visit

07-May-08 By John Martin

A Tourist Destination with Its Own “What Not To Do” Book

The Grand Canyon, everyone should visit this marvelous place at least once.  I did not realize how lucky I was that I visited the canyon during the week of July 4th.  How can that be lucky?  The heat, the crowds and more heat.  The heat made me wary of exploring the many trails that go down into the canyon.  The scenic overlooks provided wonderful canyon views, which satisfied the tourist in me.  Although I usually like to explore, I instead enjoyed a wonderful lunch from the shady porch of the hotel.  In the gift shop I noticed a book, Over the Edge: Death in Grand Canyon (Paperback) Thomas M. Myers (Author), Michael P. Ghiglieri (Author)

I purchased it.  It is quite an interesting book and appeals to the safety side of me.  It is a must read for anyone considering one of the longer hikes or rafting trips into the canyon.  It covers every imaginable kind of accident.
